After weight-loss surgery, keep your nutritional follow-up arranged. NHS1 guidance describes regular follow-up appointments for the rest of your life, which may include blood tests to check vitamin and mineral levels.1

Feeling well does not settle the nutrition question

Weight-loss surgery can make it harder for the gut to absorb vitamins and minerals from food. Malnutrition does not always cause symptoms, so feeling well alone does not establish that your nutritional needs are being met.1

Three arrangements to confirm

  • Who books the next review? Ask your surgical service or GP which follow-up arrangements apply to you.1
  • Who explains the blood results? Confirm who reviews your vitamin and mineral levels and tells you about any next step.1
  • What is my individual supplement plan? Follow the advice you have been given, including extra nutritional supplements if instructed. Ask your team to clarify any unclear directions.1

Keep those answers with your appointment details.1
