Can Hot Water Damage Your Complete Dentures?
Breath & MouthArticleCheck the soaking instructions before reaching for hot water.
Should complete dentures soak in hot water?
No. Leeds Teaching Hospitals advises against soaking complete dentures in hot water because it can change their shape and discolour them. Hotter water is not a useful shortcut for this care task.1
Which instructions should you check?
Leeds says to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the product you use. Ask your dental team to clarify the soaking instructions for your own complete dentures and cleaner.1
Try: “Which soaking instructions apply to my complete dentures? Can you explain the water instructions for the cleaner I use?”
Keep the answer with the product instructions so you can check it when preparing the container.
