In England, an HRT prescription prepayment certificate covers certain NHS-prescribed HRT medicines. It does not cover every HRT medicine or every other prescription. The NHS Business Services Authority1 advises checking coverage before buying.21
Check your prescription list
Have the exact medicine names available. Use the NHSBSA’s current covered-medicines information, or ask the pharmacy to help you check your items.
Ask: “Is this medicine covered by the HRT certificate? What about my other prescription items?”
Compare the help available
Before buying, check whether you are entitled to free NHS prescriptions. If you also need medicines outside the HRT certificate’s coverage, a standard prescription prepayment certificate may be more suitable. NHSBSA advises considering these alternatives.21
Ask: “Can you help me check free-prescription eligibility and compare the certificate options for my prescriptions?”
Use the current official information for your circumstances. A certificate’s name does not settle coverage for your particular prescription.
