If you use prescribed estrogen HRT and are considering a herbal product, check with a doctor or pharmacist before starting it. NHS1 guidance says herbal products marketed for menopause symptoms might affect other medicines. A menopause label does not establish compatibility with your prescription.1

Bring these details

  • Your estrogen: product name, strength and form, plus the other medicines in your prescribed plan.
  • The proposed product: its exact name and packaging, including the ingredient list.
  • Everything else you take: prescription and pharmacy medicines, herbal remedies, vitamins and supplements.

The NHS1 advises telling your doctor or pharmacist about all these kinds of products.1 Include products you already take, even if you do not think of them as medicine.

Ask about the combination

Ask: “I use this estrogen HRT and am considering this herbal product. Can you check it against my full medicine and supplement list?”

Have the professional clarify the next step. An unmentioned ingredient is not automatically compatible, and another person’s combination does not establish what fits your prescription.
