3 Observations About Facial Sweating While Eating After Parotid Surgery
Odor & SweatArticleRecord the location, meal pattern and other changes for your surgical team.

If facial sweating at meals appears after parotid surgery, tell your surgical team what you notice.
Three observations for the conversation
-
Where it happens. Describe the affected side and area in your own words. If you choose to take a photograph, keep it for the appointment and note when it was taken. Ask whether the location fits the operation you had.
-
What happens around meals. Write down when sweating starts, what you were eating and when it ends. Note whether flushing accompanies it. Ask the team which observations would help their assessment.
-
What else has changed. Separate sweating from worsening swelling, new pain, fever or wound discharge. Those postoperative changes need medical advice and should not be assumed to have the same explanation.1
Ask what follow-up is appropriate
Bring the operation date, discharge information and your notes. Ask whether an examination is needed, what the team thinks is causing the sweating and what options they recommend if it interferes with meals or social activities.
The discharge guidance advises contacting the team or a doctor for worsening swelling or signs of infection. Swelling that affects breathing is an emergency: call your local emergency number.1
Write down the contact route and the symptoms that should prompt an earlier call. This keeps the next step clear while you wait for review.
Arms Up lists a Fresh Log and visit script. Use them to organize the sweating pattern and questions for your consultation. See the book.
