Get help for a current problem
Seek professional help for acute lower abdominal pain, a catheter that has fallen out with inability to pass urine, or fever, nausea, vomiting or feeling unwell. Address a current concern before packing.1
Before leaving with an indwelling catheter
Gateshead Health’s catheter passport gives these holiday-packing points:1
- Check supplies with your nurse. Take a spare catheter and enough catheter leg bags or valves for the holiday. Confirm which equipment belongs to your individual plan.1
- Divide the supplies. When flying, pack some equipment in your hand luggage as well as your suitcase, in case the suitcase is lost.1
- Bring your catheter passport. Keep the record with you. It contains catheter-care information completed by healthcare professionals.1
Confirm the care arrangements
Ask your nurse about planned changes and how to obtain the supplies you need. Carrying a spare catheter is not an instruction to change it yourself. Follow the tasks your healthcare professional has taught you.1
