Contact the MRI department

If you cannot remove jewelry or a body piercing before your MRI, contact your imaging unit to explain. Princess Alexandra Hospital’s pelvic-MRI leaflet specifically asks patients with jewelry or piercings they cannot remove to contact its MRI department.1

Describe what you cannot remove

Try: “I have an MRI appointment and this piercing or jewelry cannot be removed. What information do you need, and what should I do before attending?”

Ask your own unit to explain its plan for your appointment.1

Check the appointment paperwork

The hospital’s leaflet also asks patients to read its safety questionnaire as soon as they receive it and contact the department for any yes answers. Follow your own unit’s questionnaire and preparation instructions. Keep its response with your appointment details.1
