If you have been prescribed nystatin liquid, check how you will measure it before taking it. NHS1 guidance says to use an oral syringe, medicine spoon or dropper. A kitchen teaspoon will not measure the right amount.1

What if the markings are confusing?

Show your pharmacist the actual bottle, prescription instructions and measuring device. Ask: “Can you show me which marking matches my prescribed amount, and explain how to measure it?”

If the device is missing or you cannot confidently read it, ask for help rather than guessing. Keep the professional’s instructions with the medicine information.

Can I mix the liquid into a drink?

The NHS1 says not to mix nystatin liquid with food, water or another drink. Ask your pharmacist to clarify your instructions if taking the liquid is difficult. Follow your prescriber’s advice about the amount and how long to take it.1
