4 Checks on the Regulora IBS Hypnotherapy Trial

The timing of the pain measurement changes the answer.

A treatment percentage needs a time window and a comparison group. These four checks help you read the Regulora study before choosing an IBS hypnotherapy program.

Start with the prespecified pain result

Response meant at least 30% less average daily abdominal pain during weeks 13–16, compared with a four-week pretreatment baseline. Rates were 30.4% with hypnotherapy and 27.1% with muscle relaxation (P=.5352). The primary comparison failed. Positive findings during treatment were secondary.1

Ask whether a quoted success rate describes improvement while using the program or after finishing it. Those measurements answer different questions. Improvement within one group also needs its comparison group’s result beside it.

Check the program and time commitment

The FDA device summary describes seven approximately 30-minute sessions across 12 weeks, delivered through a mobile device. US clearance covers a three-month course alongside other IBS treatments for diagnosed adults aged 22 or older, with a prescription. Its labeling warns against substituting the program for standard treatment or medication.2

Before paying, ask about session scheduling, practice between sessions, access after the course and what happens if you miss a session. Put the scheduled sessions into your calendar before deciding whether the commitment fits.

Read the population and disclosures

Among 378 randomized adults, 362 entered the modified analysis; 79.8% were women, aged 22–69. metaMe Health funded the trial; three authors consulted for the company. No serious treatment-related adverse events or adverse-event discontinuations were reported.1

The comparator was an active relaxation program. This study cannot supply a success rate against receiving no treatment, or establish how every other hypnotherapy app performs.1

Keep the product name, comparator and follow-up period together when discussing the evidence. A different app or a therapist-led service needs its own evidence and practical assessment.

Separate clearance from current access

In October 2026, the Canadian distributor’s website offers an access code through a one-time purchase and says no prescription is necessary. That Canadian route does not establish US availability or change the US cleared indication.23

Confirm the rules for your country, the current total cost and the support contact before purchasing. Ask your clinician how a digital course would fit your existing treatment and how you will judge whether continuing is worthwhile.

Bloated by Dinner includes “Diet or Hypnosis?”, which discusses a trial comparing therapist-led hypnotherapy with dietary treatment. It can help frame that broader treatment conversation; the product-specific findings above concern Regulora.
