SkinArticleApply sunscreen first, then insect repellent, and check each product's instructions.

Which goes on first?
If you are using both, CDC1 advises applying sunscreen first and insect repellent second.1
When should repellent go on again?
Follow the insect repellent’s label instructions and reapply it as directed. Check the sunscreen’s instructions separately rather than assuming the two products share a schedule. CDC1 also advises against applying repellent to skin under clothing.1
What if the instructions are unclear?
Keep both labels available when asking a pharmacist or the manufacturer to explain the instructions for your products.
Try: “I use sunscreen and insect repellent together. Can you help me understand their separate directions, including when to reapply?”
Skin, Head to Toe includes a label decoder and visit script. Use them to organize product questions and the answers you receive. Explore the skin playbook.
