Bikini Wax Appointment: Ask About Fresh Sticks

A question to ask before booking: is a new applicator used every time it enters the wax pot?

If you are booking a bikini wax, ask about the applicator policy before the appointment. You can discuss hygiene without having to explain why the question matters to you.

Before booking

Try: “Do you use a fresh applicator every time it goes into the wax pot, including during the same appointment?”1

Ask the person handling the booking to clarify the answer with the practitioner if needed. Keep the response with the appointment details so you can raise the same question when you arrive.

If the answer is “one stick per client”

Try: “I am asking about each dip into the pot. Is a new stick used each time, rather than one stick being reused for me?”1

The AAD explains that double dipping introduces hair, skin cells and bacteria into the wax pot and can lead to infection. One stick for each client does not resolve repeated dipping during that client’s treatment.1

At the appointment

Try: “Before we begin, can you explain how your fresh-stick policy works throughout the appointment?”1

If the explanation is unclear, ask for clarification before proceeding. You can decide whether to go ahead without arguing about another salon’s practices or accepting an answer you do not understand.

This question addresses one hygiene practice. It does not establish that an appointment has no other risks or that hair removal is necessary.
