Contraceptive Self-Injection: Ask About Training
PeriodsArticleConfirm your prescribed product and discuss teaching and support with your own clinic.

In this article
Contraceptive injections usually involve a doctor or nurse. NHS1 guidance says you can be taught to inject Sayana Press yourself, but it is not available everywhere. The product name matters when asking about this option.12
Can I assume my injection is suitable?
Ask your prescribing clinic: “Which injection have I been prescribed? Is self-injection an appropriate option for me?”
What should I ask about teaching?
Ask: “Do you offer training for my prescribed product? What would the teaching involve, and how would you check that I can use it correctly?”
Discuss the clinic’s arrangements rather than treating an online demonstration as your training.
Who can answer questions afterward?
Ask: “What support would I have if I felt unsure? Who should I contact about instructions or an appointment?”
Have your own team explain its plan before making a change to how you receive your injection.
Period, Handled includes a Period Scorecard and a visit script. Use them to organize your questions for the clinic. See the book.
