CPAP Pressure Feels Strong?Ask About the Ramp Feature
Sleep & NighttimeArticleAsk your sleep team whether your prescribed machine has an enabled ramp and how to use it.

If pressure feels uncomfortable while using prescribed CPAP, contact your sleep team for help adapting to treatment. Ask about your own equipment rather than copying someone else’s settings.1
What does ramp mean?
Southampton’s patient leaflet describes an enabled ramp feature as reducing pressure briefly for comfort. The clinic shows patients how to use it. That description does not establish which features your machine has.1
What should I ask my team?
Try: “Does my prescribed machine have an enabled ramp? Can you show me how it works and explain which adjustments I may make myself?”
Ask the team to distinguish comfort-feature instructions from changes to prescribed treatment settings.
What if I still struggle?
Try: “The pressure feels uncomfortable at this point during use. What would you like to review, and whom should I contact if the difficulty continues?”
Follow the instructions for your own equipment and ask the team to clarify anything uncertain.1
Did I Do That in My Sleep? includes a Visit Brief and Sleep Gear Decoder. Use them to organize equipment questions for your sleep team. See the book.
