Hair Preparation Before an EEG: Three Appointment Checks
HairArticleCheck hair products, your hairstyle and what to bring before the test.

Three hair checks for your appointment
- Arrive with clean, dry hair. NHS1 guidance says there should be no hair products such as gel or wax in it.1
- Ask ahead about weaves, braids or wigs. The NHS1 advises removing them before the EEG. If that will be difficult, contact your own clinic in advance to explain your hairstyle and ask about its instructions.1
- Pack a hairbrush or comb. The NHS1 suggests bringing one to tidy your hair after the test.1
Confirm your own preparation
A healthcare professional will tell you if you need any additional preparation. Keep those instructions with your appointment letter.1
Try: “Here is my usual hairstyle and the hair products I use. Can you clarify how I should prepare for my EEG?”
