Deodorant Before a Mammogram: Check Your Unit’s Instructions
Odor & SweatArticleClarify the appointment-day product advice with your own screening team.

If skipping deodorant makes you worry about odor at the appointment, ask the screening team about its instructions.
Why the instruction matters
These products can affect mammogram images. NHS1 guidance says not to use deodorant, antiperspirant or talcum powder on the appointment day.1
Instructions can differ. Guy’s and St Thomas’ allows roll-on deodorant but says not to wear spray deodorant, powder, lotion or perfume on the breasts and underarms that day. This is that unit’s guidance, not permission for every appointment.2
Ask about your appointment
Try: “My letter says this about deodorant. Does that apply to my usual product, and what should I do on the day?”
Read your unit’s instructions and contact it about anything unclear. If you have already applied a product, tell the team and ask what to do.12
NHS1 guidance encourages speaking to staff if you feel nervous or embarrassed. You can raise the odor concern directly.1
