Contact your GP if you notice vaginal bleeding after menopause, even if it happens only once or is a small amount. Dorset County Hospital specifically advises GP contact for postmenopausal bleeding while taking tamoxifen, because a gynaecology referral may be needed.12

Say both things together

Try: “I have had vaginal bleeding after menopause, and I take tamoxifen. What assessment do I need, and who will arrange any referral?”12

Let the team assess the cause

Postmenopausal bleeding has several possible causes. The NHS2 says assessment helps establish the cause and plan any treatment. Tell the GP about your exact medicine and the bleeding you noticed, rather than assuming an explanation.12

Ask the professional to explain the next step and whom to contact with further concerns.12
