Vaginal Estrogen Applicators: Check What Gets Reused
Menopause & HormonesArticleHave a pharmacist identify the reusable and disposable parts of your exact prescribed product.

An applicator from one vaginal estrogen product does not establish what to do with another. NHS1 instructions describe different disposal and reuse arrangements, including products with separate components. Check the supplied instructions for your own prescription.1
Compare the questions, not the products
| What you have | Ask the pharmacist |
|---|---|
| A whole applicator | Is this single-use or reusable? |
| Separate parts | Which part is discarded and which is kept? |
| Directions you cannot match to the pack | Can you show me the instructions for this exact product? |
Have the pharmacist check the product name and explain which instructions apply. Do not assume all vaginal tablets or applicators follow the same rule.1
Clarify before uncertain reuse
Ask: “Please identify each part and explain how any reusable component should be cleaned according to this pack.”
Do not use another product’s cleaning instructions or decide that a disposable part is reusable. This comparison does not give insertion, dosing or cleaning directions. Have the pharmacy resolve unclear instructions for your prescribed item.
