After fundoplication, severe chest or tummy pain, vomiting that prevents keeping fluids down, vomiting and passing blood, or difficulty swallowing with food getting stuck needs emergency care. Use your local emergency service or emergency department; do not wait for an appointment.1

Are all wraps the same?

GSTT describes several fundoplication types. Its Toupet description says that wrap lets gas escape more easily through burping. Ask which wrap your surgeon proposes and why it fits your circumstances.2

Could burping change afterward?

GSTT lists less burping, more bloating and more wind among possible postoperative effects. This does not establish that any new pain is harmless gas.1

“How might this proposed wrap affect burping or bloating, and what are my alternatives?” Have the surgeon explain the individual benefits and risks before agreeing.2
