First pelvic floor therapy appointment: questions and phrases

Prepare questions and phrases for a first pelvic floor physical therapy appointment. Edit communication cards, show a phrase in large text, or print your set.

Free to use Part of Playbook 01

Use words that feel like yours. You can ask for an explanation, pause, or discuss what you do and do not consent to. You do not need to share a personal history here to prepare a phrase.

A little preparation for the conversation

A phrase you can adapt

Ask for an explanation

Ask questions before agreeing to an examination. An explanation can include what information it may provide and what its limits are.

Show large text opens a reading card on this device. It does not send a message, speak aloud, or record consent.

These are conversation prompts, not a consent form or a record of a clinical decision.

Please give me time to discuss this.

Read the suggested phrases

All six starting phrases
Ask for an explanation
Before we decide, please explain what this exam involves, why you suggest it, and what the alternatives are.
Ask to stop now
Please stop now. I need a break.
Discuss other options
I do not want an internal examination today. Can we discuss other assessment options and what they can and cannot tell us?
Arrange support in advance
Can I request a chaperone for my appointment, and how should I arrange one?
Clarify who is in the room
Please explain who will be present and ask me before students or observers join. I would like to discuss my preferences.
Ask for clear next steps
Please show me the home plan, check that I understand it, and explain when I should stop or contact you with a concern.

Ask your own clinic about its assessment, privacy, and support arrangements. An appointment can begin with a history and discussion; an internal examination may be offered with consent. This tool does not decide which assessment or treatment you need.

Your edits and cards stay in this tab. Reloading clears them. Print or download to keep your set; nothing is sent to a clinician.

Prepare words for questions, boundaries and support at pelvic floor therapy

Choose a conversation situation and adapt the suggested wording. Save up to four cards, show one in large text on this device, or print and download your saved set. You can use the cards as a starting point rather than a script you must follow.

Can I prepare a phrase to decline an internal examination?

Yes. The internal-exam card offers wording to say you do not want one today and to ask about alternatives and their limits. Discuss options with the therapist; this tool does not decide what information an assessment can provide in your case.

Does showing a card record consent or send it to the clinic?

No. Large text is a reading view on your device. The cards do not record consent, contact the clinic, or guarantee its support arrangements. You can discuss your preferences directly and ask the clinic about its process.

Behind this tool

Research checked October 8, 2026. These original phrases are informed by patient guidance on pelvic-health appointments. The linked NHS pages describe their own services; arrangements at your clinic may differ.
