A stain is a laundry problem, not a reason to feel embarrassed. This guide helps you choose a starting point; it cannot inspect fabric, guarantee removal, or override the garment and cleaning-product labels.

Question 1

What do the garment and fabric instructions tell you?

Check the care label first. Choose the specialist route for absorbent period underwear, even if it can go in a washing machine.

Before treating a period stain

  • Read the garment care label and the cleaning-product directions together. A product that works on one fabric may damage another.
  • For fresh blood on an ordinary washable garment, start with cold water. Hot water can set the stain.
  • Check before tumble drying. If a stain remains, dryer heat can make removal harder.
  • Use the manufacturer’s specific care instructions for period underwear. Absorbent layers and finishes need their own care.

This guide covers clothing, not skin, wounds, mattresses, or upholstery. Use cleaning products only as directed and do not mix them. If the fabric or instructions are unclear, ask the garment maker or a professional cleaner before experimenting.

Choose a period-stain starting route using the garment instructions

Start with the garment type and care directions. Ordinary washable clothes lead to questions about the stain and compatible treatments; special or uncertain garments lead to care-specific guidance. Change an earlier answer to rebuild the route, then print or download it.

Can I use the ordinary-clothing route for absorbent period underwear?

Choose the specialist-garment route instead. Follow the exact maker’s directions for that item’s absorbent layers, detergent, washing and drying. A standard clothing method may not fit its care requirements.

Will the guide remove a period stain that has been through a dryer?

It cannot guarantee removal. Choose the heat-dried option to see a cautious starting route. Heat can make stains harder to remove, and stronger treatment can damage the fabric.
